This weekend sees the start of Winchester Green Week 2023 (Saturday 23 to Sunday 1 October). The aim of the week is to celebrate and promote sustainable living through events for everyone, organised by local communities and raise awareness that a sustainable future can be created by all of us growing greener together.
At Hampshire Cultural Trust, our central offices and stores are based in Winchester, along with four of our 24 venues: 878 AD, The Arc, Winchester City Museum and Westgate Museum. At the start of this week, we wanted to share just one of the steps we have taken to become a more climate conscious organisation and do our part to create a greener, more sustainable Winchester.
Introducing e-bikes...
This summer, in partnership with The Cycle Co. (based in Winchester), we launched our new staff e-bike scheme.
Our team members frequently travel between our Winchester offices at Chilcomb House and our four venues in the city centre. This new scheme allows our staff free use of e-bikes during working hours. The scheme has been reducing travel time for our staff who would usually make the trip to the city by car to get to meetings or events and has meant they avoiding the city centre traffic!
Foldable and lightweight, the bikes are an alternative and sustainable way for the team to travel, help improve staff wellbeing and are one of the many initiatives we are taking as an organisation to reduce our carbon footprint and work towards net zero.
