International Day of Charity

Hampshire Cultural Trust: improving wellbeing, health and happiness through cultural experiences and changing lives through culture.

On 5 September 2024, the world unites to observe the International Day of Charity, a day dedicated to recognising the vital role that charity plays in improving our communities and fostering a more compassionate society. Established by the United Nations in honour of Mother Teresa, this day serves as a powerful reminder of the impact of kindness and community spirit.

Here at Hampshire Cultural Trust, we are an independent charity committed to delivering outstanding cultural experiences to both residents and visitors to the region. As a cultural organisation in its tenth year, we exist to place our communities at the heart of everything we do, enhancing wellbeing, health and happiness through cultural engagement. Hampshire Cultural Trust manages and supports over 20 venues across the county and provides a huge variety of workshops, classes, events and projects for all ages, in schools and in communities, with particular emphasis on reaching people who are vulnerable or disadvantaged and would not normally be able to access arts and culture.

Additionally, we care for 2.5 million objects that represent Hampshire’s rich and internationally significant cultural heritage. The spaces in which we operate are more than just buildings; they are the custodians of the county's collective memory.

How you can get involved

When you choose to support Hampshire Cultural Trust, you are not just giving to an organisation; you are investing in the future of our communities. Your contribution helps us continue our mission of bringing culture and heritage to everyone in Hampshire, ensuring that our shared history and creative potential are accessible to all.

This International Day of Charity, we invite you to join us in celebrating the power of giving. There are many ways you can make a difference:

  1. Donate: your financial support, no matter the size, helps us continue our work in preserving and promoting culture in Hampshire
  2. Volunteer: offer your time and skills to support our events, exhibitions, and educational programmes
  3. Advocate: spread the word about the importance of culture and heritage in our communities. Encourage others to get involved with Hampshire Cultural Trust
  4. Attend: visit our museums and cultural venues, participate in our programmes and experience first-hand the impact of culture on our community

The ripple effect of your generosity can be seen in the smiles of children discovering history for the first time, in the pride of local artists exhibiting their work and in the stories of individuals whose lives have been enriched by our cultural programmes. Each act of giving, no matter how small, contributes to a larger tapestry of community wellbeing.

A heartfelt thank you

We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who has supported Hampshire Cultural Trust. Your generosity enables us to continue our work in making culture accessible to all, fostering a sense of belonging and community across Hampshire. Together, we can ensure that the rich cultural heritage of our region is preserved and celebrated for generations to come.

On this special day, let’s remember that charity begins at home, and by supporting our local cultural institutions, we are building a stronger, more vibrant community for everyone.

Thank you for being a part of our journey.
