Share your story with "Basingstoke's My Home: Local Stories with Global Roots" exhibition

Data Hunters and Story Gatherers: towards community curatorship is a unique project funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF). We are working with a team of volunteers to research untold stories and develop a community-curated exhibition.

Our community-curated exhibition, Basingstoke’s My Home: Local Stories with Global Roots, is being developed in partnership with the Community Collective and is scheduled to open at the Willis Museum and Sainsbury Gallery in Winter 2024.

This exhibition will celebrate the diverse communities who have immigrated to Basingstoke over the 20th and 21st centuries. Stories from the local community will form the backbone of the exhibition. We will look to these narratives to explore why people moved to Basingstoke, share cultures and traditions and to tell the exhibitions' visitors why Basingstoke is a great place to live!

We're calling on YOU to make this exhibition truly special. We want to showcase as many unique stories and experiences as possible, highlighting the positive impact immigrants have brought to Basingstoke.

The stories you share with us may be selected to form a part of the display. We may include an audio or video recording of your story in the exhibition, including edited experts developed to tell your story.

Here's how you can contribute to our exhibition:

  • Share your personal immigration story
  • Submit a poem, creative writing piece or artwork
  • Share photographs with accompanying stories or explanation
  • Record a sound or video clip capturing your cultural traditions

Your story may be selected to be be showcased alongside images and objects loaned to us for display, creating a powerful narrative of our community's culture and heritage.

To contribute to our Basingstoke's My Home: Local Stories with Global Roots exhibition, please complete the form below or click the link here.

All submissions should be completed by Sunday 30 June.
